ImageRoss Cavins is 37, twice divorced and lives with his cat in the sunny South.  Writing comes naturally because his cat is whiny and can't hold a decent conversation.  His current goal in life is to become a household name like Oreos, Liquid Drano and Tampax.  He strives to be as famous a writer as Stephen Kingsley, his neighbor down the street that edits the Obituaries column on Sundays.

He likes long walks in the woods (preferably with mosquito repellent and a crooked walking cane made from a broken branch).  He adores oatmeal creme pies, is fascinated by cleavage, and is easily amused by kittens playing and traffic snarls.

And more importantly, he is currently single, without an agent, a publisher or a significant other.

Seriously ...

I'm an aspiring writer who's slowly gathering steam and as I've developed my style, I've found myself drawn to the likes of Pat Conroy and James Lee Burke amongst others. They are masters of the written word.

I draw from many influences but I recently discovered that most of my inspiration comes from being Southern. It was a journey to realize just how deep my roots spread but it was a journey worth taking.

The acknowledgement that I am indeed a Southern Writer was a big surprise to me. I hadn't fully comprehended the gestalt of it all until I decided to write what came natural. Then the revelation appeared.

You have to write what you know ... and what I know about is being Southern.

Growing up, I had shunned the South even to the point of erasing my Southern drawl. Even to this day, it only emerges after a few strong drinks.

But now, I fully embrace my Southern heritage. We are a truly unique culture of geniality and hospitality and I believe we have an understanding of life that no one else can match.

Just read a few of your stories, nearly falling out of the chair, laughing. Great stuff. Welcome to USADeepSouth.com. Come on by, pull up a chair on The Porch, set a spell. You'll find some right friendly folks thereabouts.
